A group exhibition exploring the art of activism and all that motivates the expression of the artist as the change agent.
My piece above, "There's industry in the water." is included in the Artivism Exhibit at the qathet Art Centre. This painting was formed from indigo and rust-dyed cloth, patchworked together and stretched over a frame.
Near my home studio, there is a river known since time immemorial as tiskʷət, big river. The waters used to hold one of the largest Sockeye Salmon runs along this coastline. That was until the river was dammed to create a power source for the pulp and paper mill that created the colonial economic foundation for the town. The mill is now decommissioned, but the dam still stands.
There's industry in the water. is about the remaining damage to the environment that the mill has left behind and a call to pay attention to the health and flow of the water in our community, qathet, BC.
